AD: Space Architecture

Theme of the new Architectural Design: Space Architecture, the new frontier for design research.

Last year Gravity was a cinema blockbuster, now Interstellar is. Fourty years on from the first moon landing space is back in the mind of the public. Mars is high on the list of scientists, though it is a some 225 million miles away, and space tourism has already started – voyages are being sold and Californian billionaire Dennis Tito went up in a Soyuz spaceship, as far back as in 2001. The new Architectural Design (AD) looks at space from the angle of man-made constructions: the colonisation of the Red Planet, the design of space stations, space architecture and even: food in space. The timing of the issue is remarkable of course – one of the articles is dedicated to Virgin Galactic SpaceShipTwo, the one that crashed in the Mojave dessert on October 31, killing one of the two pilots.
