Dapper Dan: fashion and Philosophy for bearded men

Fashion and Philosophy for the new man: Dapper Dan is celebrating it’s tenth issue.

Except a few advertisements, Dapper Dan is a simple magazine in plain black & white. It is aimed at men, not the metro man of a decade or so ago, but men that make their claim to fame now.  Often with lots of hair, as you can see on the cover of the magazine. It brings me back to the seventies of the last era, and the music and lifestyle that was connected with it. Neil Young’s Cinnamon Girl, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Band. Hippies, hair and hotpants.

However, Dapper Dan is not aimed at old dinosaurs like me. It is aimed at hipsters, those middle-class white bohemians in their twenties and thirties, that embrace an alternative lifestyle, organic food, vintage clothes and progressive politics. And fashion and philosophy: it follows a spirit, not a format, the magazine claims. I certainly like this kind of optimism, it reminds me of the past. I wish you a bright future, Dan.
