Luerzer’s cover: love packed in plastic

On the cover of the new Lürzer’s: couples packed in plastic, image for the condom brand Condomania, shot by Japanese photographer Hal. ‘Preserve love.

Wear a condom’, is the pay off of this campaign for Japanese condom brand Condomania. But the way these couples are packed is rather reminiscent of preserving meat than of preserving love. Photographer Hal (Japan) picks up interesting couples in bars around Tokyo and asks them if they are in for a photo shoot. And before they know it, they are vacuum packed in futon storage bags. “Human beings aren’t completed if they’re just by themselves,” he says. “It’s when they come together, when they come really close that they’re finally completed. That’s why I pack them together”. The ads that result from his photowork, by Ogilvy & Mather Tokyo, are certainly eyecatchers. However, they also seem to emphasize the claustrofobic feeling that condoms can offer.
