DAMn: 550 unworn jumpers
Funny project by Dutch designer Meindertsma involves 550 unworn jumpers.
Celebrated Dutch designer Christien Meindertsma, winner of The Dutch Design Award for her book PIG 05049, is about to end a new project. Star of the project is the 80-year old Rotterdam lady Loes Veenstra. A lady with a hobby: mrs Veenstra knitted more than 500 jumpers and stacked them in her small semi-detached house. They were never worn, untill Christien Meindertsma came along.
Meidertsma turned this pile of knitwork into a true community project. She had all the jerseys photographed and put them into a book. Then she organised an event involving a camera crew, a twirling group, a marching band and a few hundred volunteers. Together they formed a flash mob wearing Loes’jumpers.
The project ends next weekend, when the jumpers are auctioned in Rotterdam museum De Kunsthal. If you are fast you might get a hold on one of these now arty garments.
