The Architectural Review: Rotterdam & Rem

Impressive photography, interesting copy: De Rotterdam in AR.

More than 20 pages of impressive architecture – The Architectural Review on De Rotterdam, OMA’s towering new complex in Hollands second city. The impressive building recasts the notion of a vertical city. Illustrated with impressive photography by Ossip van Duivenbode.

Journalist Bart Lootsma on De Rotterdam: “What is striking about the building is the overall impression of blankness. It is so blank, that it isn’t even enigmatic any more. It is not spectacular either, despite its size. It just sits there.”

Rem Koolhaas: “In content I declared death to the skyscraper, was was obviously a joke. At that time the skyscraper became simply a race for the tallest building, with the same boring mix of Armani hotel, corporate office, etc.”

In short: spicy opinions on a spectacular project.
