LFI: Sad Sète (Bonjour Tristesse)

Coldness on the cover of LFI – Leica Fotografie International

A flock of screaming seagulls, a concrete jetty, a calm sea and a lighthouse in the distance.  The photo on the cover of LFI doesn’t give you the summer feeling that the South of France normally evokes. The work by photographer Cédric Gerbehaye is one of a serie, Grey Zone in LFI, that was shot in Sète, French harbour city along the south coast, near Marseille.
The decline of the fishing industry, the ageing of the population and the increase of foreign immigrants takes its toll on this small town. Gerbehaye spent five weeks in a small fisherman’s cottage, with his M Monochrom as his companion. The result captures all the contrasts of this rapidly changing town.
