Typography Typografische Monatsblätter

Typografische Monatsblätter: tm rsi stm

Let’s be honest: the title is a bit dull – Typografische Monatsblatter. And so is the cover.

But if you look a bit further, and you are a typography professional, then this serious and seemingly conservative monthly proves to hold nice surprises. The first issue was printed more than 70 years ago and the Swiss union ‘Print and Paper’ is responsible for it. It will never be the coolest of magazines, and this may be considered a compliment.

But the inside of this clean and thorough Swiss magazine is surprisingly urban this month. Of course, there is a lot on print on paper, not surprising, considering the roots of it. But it is also dripping paint and abundant with colours – due to an article on Mexican graffiti by Patricia Cué. We hope that this is TM’s coming outof the closet and that it carries a rough and urban animal somewhere in its genes.
