The Travel Almanac: Paz, ever lost something?
Funny little magazine, The Travel Almanac.
A bit strange and puzzling, and yet a pleasant read. On the one hand artistic – carefully designed, pleasant typography, inspired photography – but on the the other hand not about art, only about the art of travel. But it’s always creative people that travel, in this magazine: author and poet Barry Gifford, rock artist Green Gartside, actress Paz de la Huerta, William Dafoe, Magnum photographer Alec Scott.
Because The Travel Almanac is fully aware of its theme and reason of existence, this leads to questions like ‘have you ever lost something while traveling that was dear to you?’ (interview with De La Huerta), ‘how do you commute to London? By train, right?’ (interview with Green Gartside) and ‘do you consider yourself to be an expert on traveling in Germany then?’ (interview with William Dafoe).
But the magazine is at its best when it discusses the works and views of these creative people and not their travel habits. Or as it shows or describes essential travel gear and places: cactusses photographed by Katrine Thiesen, 12 luxurious hotels, the Borsalino hat and… hand luggage in the dunes.
