Playing in debris – Domus in Gaza

Not only shiny and bright design ideas in Domus, the 966-th issue of this influential magazine on architecture. On the cover: a young Palestinian who makes a backward salto. But, though the picture is taken in Gaza and you can see the injured buildings in the background, his jump has nothing to do with war. It takes place despite the ongoing armed conflicts in the region. The young man is a sportsman –  a practitioner of free running and member of the Gaza Parkour Team, that was set up in 2005 at Khan Younis.

For these young men the scarred city, that suffered from fierce artillery attacks and is frequently invaded by Israeli tanks, is a playground as well. In Domus a photoessay on Gaza by Antonio Ottomanelli, photographer, architect and teacher at Milan Polytechnics.
